In that theory, he would know that it's not an open border but is intentionally repeating a partisan sound bite that he knows people would believe to be literal.
Which would be the same as intentionally lying. Maybe even worse, since it relies on him thinking that the majority of the county is ignorant enough to believe him.
Is that what you're suggesting?

Antithesis, Or the Sheriff is using the term "open border" not for its literal meaning as you illustrated using N.C. / SC, but as a metaphor for the situation at our southern border w/ Mexico.

I believe the CBP officers that when interviewed say much the same thing.
You may be right, I have no idea. But that doesn't change anything. Because "a lot of people sneaking across the border" is drastically different from the false claim that there's an "open border."
The definition of an "open border" is that it "enables free movement of people between jurisdictions with no restrictions on movement and is lacking substantive border control." For example, North Carolina and South Carolina have open borders between one another. But to say that there's an open border with Mexico, in spite of the fact that is is more fortified than at any other time in history... well, that's just absurd.
So for our Sheriff to repeat this partisan sound bite in spite of its absurdity means that he's either intentionally lying... or he's been manipulated by propaganda.
Which of those two do you find to be more concerning?

In one thread you've accused Sheriff Shew of either lying for political purposes or being racist or both...
Yes. Why else would he cite fake news propaganda?
since Shew has devoted over 40 years to law enforcement in Wilkes Co, being Sheriff since 2010, do you think it possible that he might know more about current crime trends in Wilkes Co than you do, do you think it possible he didn't share all of his intelligence information with the local papers in order to protect ongoing and future investigations?
Do I think he might know more about local crime trends? Maybe, except that this information is all public record. Unless you're claiming that he falsifies records.
Do I think that he knows more about the Mexican border? When he made the claim that we have an open border... no, he doesn't. He's repeating propaganda.
But you make an interesting point... do you think that it's possible that Biden and Harris know more about the Mexican border than you do? And that maybe they didn't share all of their intelligence information with you in order to protect ongoing and future policies?

Once Trump and Vance take over, the border will be secured and they can limit the flow of fentanyl into this country.

I guess that since in three months fentanyl seizures outpaced meth 10 to 1 had zero bearing on the Sheriff's assessment of what his investigators are seeing.
Source? All I'm seeing are articles in the JP and Record, and I'm not seeing anything like that.
If it's true that something in Wilkes changed in the last 3 months, how would that be a reflection on border security?
You are a partisan hack plain and simple...
Not at all! I just like facts... it's not my fault that, lately, facts tend to favor one party over the other.
... who will even stoop to posting four year old articles to try and prove your argument. What didn't age well was when my article from the DEA completely destroyed your stance on how fentanyl is currently being brought into the US.
But none of that changes the fact that the borders are more secure than ever, and the Sheriff was citing memes and propaganda...

You go girl, pull that race card!!
"As long as that border is open there's going be fentanyl," Wilkes Sheriff Chis Shew said. "It's coming from China and coming across the border with Mexico. It's created the most dangerous environment law enforcement has ever seen. You make a traffic stop you don't who you've stopped or what they've got. But we're going to keep arresting them. When you get the border under control, then you will reduce the amount of drugs coming in here."
I didn't "pull the race card," the Sheriff did. He blatantly lied about "open borders," knowing that the border has been the most secure in history for the last 4 years.
And he focused entirely on the one Hispanic guy caught with fentanyl, while making no comment on the 19 non-Hispanics.
Funny enough, just 3 months ago they said...
"Meth is still the drug of choice in Wilkes County, probably because it's the cheapest," Dancy said. "One gram is around $50. We're seeing a little bit more cocaine than usual. Fentanyl is staying about the same." https://thewilkesrecord.com...49-149.htm
I guess that didn't play well, though, so they had to change their story for the election...
And back to the topic... Pam Bullis was arrested for making and selling meth in June AND September? Any bets on how long before she's out on the street again? My bet would be... tomorrow morning.

If he believes that the DEA is wrong then I would be concerned with whether our Sheriff is influenced by memes and fake news. But if he's lying to get support from Republicans and incite hatred towards Mexicans then that's an even bigger concern for me.

Antithesis, Your article about how fentanyl enters the US is from 2020, things apparently have changed, the below is from January this year,
"These Counter Threat Teams draw on the intelligence from our 334 offices around the world to map the cartels' global networks and to identify targets for investigation and prosecution. While the cartels' operations are based in Mexico, DEA has identified more than 50 additional countries where these criminal networks operate. DEA has also traced the cartels' global supply chain around the world. The cartels purchase chemicals from companies in China, mass produce the fentanyl in Mexico, and then traffic and distribute finished fentanyl widely throughout the United States."

But still, that doesn't change the fact that the DEA says that he's wrong, and that it mostly comes by mail from China directly to the US.

Antithesis, Below is from the 2020 article you linked, where does it say how much fentanyl was seized back then?
"The latest efforts resulted in the seizure of 988 grams of meth with a street value of about $35,000, 12 grams of heroin worth about $1,800, 157 prescription pills (mostly Oxycodone pain pills) worth about $5,000 and 28 grams of cocaine worth about $1,200. About 29 grams of marijuana were seized."

In fact, the DEA says that WE smuggle fentanyl into Mexico just as much as the other way around...
The DEA says that fentanyl primarily comes into the US directly from China by mail, and second by way of Canada.
Did he imagine that there was an open border in 2020, when they arrested 45 people for meth and fentanyl?
