Keep making it just a little easier...

It's not easier, it's the exact same. How are you complaining about an issue that you don't understand?

...till California is legally required to call them maps

As has been explained to you before, the term "MAP" is more inclusive, not less. This is another issue that you simply don't understand...

14 with a 24 ? Or is it 16 with a 18 in NC

In NC the age of consent is 16 it doesn't matter how much older the other person is

The number of homicides in the 32 study cities providing homicide data was 10% lower-representing 515 fewer homicides-in 2023 than in 2022.
Looking at other violent offenses, there were 3% fewer reported aggravated assaults in 2023 than in 2022 and 7% fewer gun assaults in 11 reporting cities. Reported carjacking incidents fell by 5% in 10 reporting cities but robberies and domestic violence incidents each rose 2%.
Among property crimes, reports of residential burglaries (-3%), nonresidential burglaries (-7%), and larcenies (-4%) all decreased in 2023 compared to 2022. The number of drug offenses increased by 4% over the same period.
Motor vehicle theft, a crime that has been on the rise since the summer of 2020, continued its upward trajectory through 2023. There were 29% more reported motor vehicle thefts in 2023 than in 2022.

This is the info the article you posted cites. Yes, they cherry pick the data and say, look it's higher than it was pre 2020, but the very article states violent crime has been decreasing since then.

Call me whatever sad little name you want. I'm just citing your own source.

That might be your point, but you have no facts to back it up.

I believe y'all are just missing the OP point.

I believe the OP is missing the OP's point...

He said that SB 145 "lowers the penalties for adults who have sex with same-sex minors." This is simply not true. The only thing that SB 145 did was give the same discretion to judges over gay sex crimes that they have over hetero sex crimes.

This is the problem with getting your news from memes and clickbait...

Anti, you gave the example of a nineteen year old an a 17 year old so it wouldn't look so bad.

No, I quoted that example from the page that I linked...

Wouldn't you agree a 24 year old and a 14 year old is bad enough to automatically place the offender on the sex offender registry regardless of same sex, opposite sex?

Can you think of any situation where it wouldn't be fair?

This girl is 15...

She probably wouldn't even be carded at a bar!

I could imagine a 24 year old man meeting her and thinking she's obviously 18. Still illegal, but would it be fair for him to be branded as a child rapist for the rest of his life?

But again, I think you're missing the point of the bill.

It doesn't change anything related to the 24 year and the 14 year old. The judge has always had discretion on whether to put the offender on the sex offender's registry if they were opposite genders. All this bill does is give the same discretion for when they are the same gender.

Never mind Albert, I found the info.

So theres three NC laws on statutory rape.

If the victim is under thirteen and the defendant is 18 or over, or if the If the victim is under 13 and the defendant is at least 12 years old but also four years older than the victim they must register. But if the victim is 13, 14 or 15 and the defendant is under six years older they do not have to register.

Hillbilly,
"In NC people convicted of statutory rape who are 6 years older than the victim don't have to register either"

I think you are incorrect as Statutory Rape is a reportable conviction that requires the offender to register.
Scroll down to page 7-8 you'll find the listed crime's requiring registration.

I think the stance that someone who's 24 and has sex with a 14 year old should be on a registry is generally a pretty reasonable stance to take. However, acting as if this law that went into affect four years ago is some new gift to pedophiles from the loony liberals in California and that it makes the above scenario legal is simply untrue. This bill corrected an inconsistency within the laws and gave the judge discretion on when putting a person on the sex offenders registry made sense. In North Carolina a 76 year old man can have sex with a 16 year old and it's legal. In California it is illegal for an 18 year old to have sex with a16 year old. In NC people convicted of statutory rape who are 6 years older than the victim don't have to register either, but the age of consent is two years lower so it's not as if the laws are even that different.
