Three studies were done regarding a planet friendly diet. The study was on more than 200,000 men and women, and was over a period of 34 years. It was completed by the EAT-Lancet Commission, composed of 37 scientists from 16 countries.

The study found that those who most closely followed the diet "had a 28% lower risk of neurodegenerative mortality, a 14% lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease, a 10% lower risk of dying from cancer and a 47% lower risk of dying from a respiratory disease, which applied to nonsmokers as well."

If the entire world were to utilize this diet, they also found that they could cut land use for food production by 51%, greenhouse gas emissions by 29%, and fertilizer use by 21%.

The diet consists of "half of a plate of fruits, vegetables, and nuts, while the other half consists of whole grains, plant proteins (beans, lentils, pulses), unsaturated plant oils, modest amounts of meat and dairy, and some added sugars and starchy vegetables." It mostly eliminates processed foods and high sugar foods, and decreases meat consumption while replacing it with plant proteins.

For example, instead of plate that's 8 ounces of fried chicken, 4 ounces of mashed potatoes, 4 ounces of macaroni, and a roll... you might have a plate that's 1/2 salad, 4 ounces of chicken fried in olive oil, 2 ounces of beans, 2 ounces of sweet potatoes (butter, no sugar), and a whole grain roll.
