Tin pans tied on a string supported at a slight angle will constantly move while banging against the support and will usually keep the birds at bay until the seeds germinate. I usually scatter them in my garden when I sow the spring stuff

@Old Dixie Dog, I usually don't but for the last 2 years I've seen a TON of birds going after it! At $200 /bag, it's too expensive to be bird food

Any suggestions on where to get straw to cover the grass seed? Or any other alternative?
I saw it at Lowes, but a 500 square foot roll was almost $20! I'm covering about 50,000 square feet, and it's not worth $2000 to me
