Last Wednesday, the Wisconsin legislature's Committee on Shared Revenue, Elections, and Consumer Protection held a hearing regarding several bills, including Senate Bill 685 and Assembly Bill 567. These two bills would require municipalities to begin canvassing absentee ballots on the day before the election at 7am, noon, and 8pm, as well as on election day at the same times. The bills would also eliminate central counting for municipalities that use electronic voting machines and require the canvassing be done at individual polling places.
It would also require the municipal clerk or their designee to report the total number of ballots, including absentee ballots, to the county clerk starting at the close of polls at 9pm and each subsequent hour until the canvassing is complete. The bill also would provide whistleblower protections to municipal clerks who witness and report election fraud or irregularities.
Voting machine companies Dominion Voting Systems and Smartmatic are heading back to court next year, likely dragging reams of new evidence and allies of Donald Trump into open court just as the former president again seeks a second term.
The companies were both accused of rigging the 2020 election by Trump allies and conservative media outlets, despite the fact that there is no evidence of significant voter fraud. Both have filed separate lawsuits alleging defamation against Fox News, Newsmax, Trump lawyers Sidney Powell and Rudy Giuliani, prominent election denier Mike Lindell and his company MyPillow, and others.
Last week, a survey conducted by the Heartland Institute and Rasmussen Research found that one in five voters admit to having committed some sort of vote-by-mail violation in the 2020 presidential election.
In the 2020 election, more than 1-in-5 voters who submitted ballots by mail say they did so fraudulently, a survey from Rasmussen Reports and the Heartland Institute reveals.
The survey asked those who voted by mail in the 2020 election if they filled out a ballot "in part or in full, on behalf of a friend or family member, such as a spouse or child?" to which 21 percent said they had done so.
Though many states allow voters to receive assistance while voting, the Heartland Institute notes, filling out ballots on behalf of another person is illegal across the United States.
In addition, 17 percent of mail-in voters in the 2020 election said they cast a ballot in a state where they were no longer a permanent resident — a violation of federal election law. Another 17 percent of mail-in voters said they signed a ballot on behalf of someone else, also a violation of election law.
