The government inflation numbers do not accurately gauge inflation for the real world. Many people's insurance went up enough this year to wipe out a 2.5% COLA adjustment.

COLA is calculated using the Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) for the third quarter of the current year (July. August and September).

In layman's term, you get more money next year when inflation is high. This year the Biden administration lowered inflation to 2.9% for August 2024.

So you can,'t lower inflation and get a big COLA.
