Inflation for the last year was 3.2%...
At the absolute very least, they should be given a 3.2% increase. That would JUST be an inflation adjustment, so they would have the exact same value as last year.
A 1.9% increase, after adjusting for inflation, is actually a budget cut.

I tend to agree, Moose. The Sheriff has about 40 years of experience and knows what he needs, I don't have the same confidence that our County Manager understands or appreciates the Sheriff's value.
The only areas that had less of a budget increase was Legal and Central Operations. And I don't know if either of those are actual departments... I think Legal just refers to the attorney firm that we hire, so they make their money from other clients, too.

I trust the sheriff more , the police / firefighters / emergency services should be the highest paid with high level training also.

The Sheriff requested $11,111,872 this year, but the county is only recommending to give them $8,913,049. That's only a 1.9% increase from last year, so not even enough to cover a payroll cost of inflation adjustment!
In comparison, the Information Technology Department is getting a 20.65% increase in their budget, the highest increase of any department. And the County Manager & Personnel is getting a 6.97% increase... probably a raise for all of them.
Do you think that it's reasonable for the Sheriff's Department to get 20% less than requested?
Who do you trust more, the Sheriff or the County Manager and County Commissioners?
