Do not give anyone who cold calls you any information. Back when the scam calls started a dude called me and claimed to be IRS and said if I didn't agree to pay I would be arrested. I told him to meet me at the magistrates office at 8AM. He hung up and I never heard from him again.

Using AI, scammers are now taking videos from your social media and using it to FACETIME your friends! It's your face and your voice, so they have no way of knowing it's not really you...

This means that you could be literally video chatting with a cop in uniform that looks and sounds exactly like a local cop, but it's really some scammer in Eastern Europe.

We would like to make the Citizens of Wilkes County aware of a New Scam.

We have had 2 reports of Scammers calling citizens using Wilkesboro Police Officer Names. The Police Department's phone number shows on caller ID and the scammer is telling citizens that immediate action is required or they would be arrested. After this the scammer is soliciting information from the citizen.

If you receive a call like this, feel free to hang up and contact us at 336-667-7277 and confirm the call.
