If Vance makes a total arse of himself he will still be the winner. And whatever happens the debate will have been rigged against him, ask any MAGAT. The MAGATS have an excuse for every one of their failures both before and after the event. They'd look a whole lot better if they admitted "Yeah we screwed up" once in a while, but that requires maturity and there aint none of that to be found in the MAGATRY.
