Holidays, especially the 4th, are prime time for break-ins and thefts! And almost every one of them link back to social media.

People commonly make the mistake of thinking that they know their "friends" on social media, without realizing that someone you went to school with 20 years ago has grown up to be a criminal. Or their child is a criminal. Or someone hacked their account. You think that you know them, but many are really acquaintances, or even complete strangers.

When you go to an event like the parade or fireworks, you should never post about it on social media until after you get home! When you post pictures or comments while at the event, it's a green light to the criminals that you're not home, and even gives them an idea of how long you'll be gone!

Almost every break-in or theft that's reported to the police end up linking back to the thief watching social media for an opportunity. Be smart - don't post it!
