One is a widely accepted scientific theory, the other is a religion.
The First Amendment states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..." I think it's a major stretch for anyone to think that teaching one religion on public schools is anything other than the establishment of religion.
Nothing in the Constitution says anything about establishing scientific theories.
If we were talking about an elective on comparative religion, though, I would fully support that! Teach a comparison of all of the major religions instead of forcing one on all students, and that would satisfy the Constitution.
IMHO, if a religion is going to die unless it's enforced then it's not much of a religion...
