And do all them training hours which they require apparently for free and then expect em to show up at a turkey's beck and call after all they d*** complaining on Go's site here, Butch? Our sources calls such wishful thinking.

Another one to ask is why many of these departments have 6-8 or more trucks to cover one fire district.

Newkid, thanks for chiming in. I personally believe there are people out there that could fill every station. This mismanagement of some of them is what I am so concerned about. In those services, mismanagement means loss of property and sometimes lives.

They prob don't have those camera's putz. Or admin that sleeps with a paramedic, that just so conveniently gets fired shortly after it comes out.

You saying they mornlikely ain't no hidden cameras in the EMS locker rooms or what, blockhead?

NewKidOnTheBlock

Posted 6:25 pm, 04/26/2024

BOT, they are building them because the county decided to be serious and back their emergency services agencies. Not turn a blind eye to mismanagement and refuse to fund a needed service. Also most, if not all of the Fire Dept's and both rescue squads in Iredell have paid staffing. They don't blow money on visitors centers, race tracks or over zealous county office buildings.

They r funding some fancy new firehouses in Iredell apparently, perhaps you younguns ort to ask Butch which is mornlikely a proponent of em to see how they got so d*** lucky to be able to build they new buildings and entice fellers to work for em for free as volunteers and such also.

Cold T, the fire/rescue and ems service in Wilkes is in dire straits. EMS is continually loosing quality medics to other counties because of failure of administration. Many of the fire departments are mismanaged, and most have missed calls, meaning they had zero response. They either had to call for mutual aid or let EMS handle it alone if it's a medical call. If you want to see for yourself, instead of getting the department sugar coating or folks like Gascon, who are part of the problem, simply get a scanner, listen to the calls and note on a pad of paper the following. When was the call dispatched (time), what time did the fire department check enroute, what time did they check a fire apparatus enroute, what time did they arrive. This will tell you the tale. There are currently 7 departments in the county with part or full time staffing. Those 7 end up going several districts away at times for failure of the primary department to respond in a timely manner, or at all. This leaves their fire district without that help. With the exception of the rescue squad and Wilkes EMS, who covers the entire county, the fire departments are responsible only for their primary district, and their mutual aid departments if requested.

if i be that concerned id take my concerns to the source. I know, you know what this is about. I say spit it all for all to read. no matter what you say the fireman are brave in my book. fighting fires is no easy task and some do it for no pay. enuff said unless you wish to tell me the real reason behind this post. I don't question the way they run fire stations, just be glad you have them

gascon, how are you any help to this thread? I have, what I consider to be an honest, concern and, you obviously having no cards in the game, come in here bashing on me. How does that make you any better than what you are accusing me of? All I am trying to figure out is, when we have races in town, do my properties have fire coverage in that community. You can go to any department any day of the week and they will sugar coat it and make you feel like you are their number one concern, and they will be there in no time if you have a need. However, I was looking to see if anyone on here had information on how this works out if they take resources away from their community. At least a few people took time to give some help on this and I appreciate those. However, just like any group, you always have the people that just want to be heard, right or not. I hope nobody ever has to question if they will have a response to an emergency if they should ever have one.

All this talk and nothing said. Wanting and hoping someone will say something their desperately seeking. They don't have the balls to spit it out. Why, because it hearsay, lie I'm guessing. New names as usual. We are having lots of these lately. Getting people fired is a new hobby for some.

Coldturkey,
My friend who is an Assistant Fire Chief at a different department in Wilkes said that only 2 of the fire Chiefs in Wilkes are full time paid positions, those are the 2 towns Wilkesboro and North Wilkesboro, all other fire chiefs are volunteer (even if somewhat compensated for being fire chief). It sounds like the Moravian Falls Chief has a part time job as the fire chief during races and events and is probably paid by the racetrack. As far as using Moravian Falls equipment at the racetrack, GO BY MORAVIAN FALLS AND ASK.

Still stirring the excrement.

COLDTURKEY

NewKid seems to have some insight on this. So, how are you a fire chief at two different places? You can't be at both places at once and you cannot have both places best interest at the same time. Your statement on "But their district may or may not be covered" is the concern that started this whole thread. Is it covered, or isn't it? If it is not, does Moravian Falls have any kind of agreement, written or otherwise, that when that chief is dedicated to his track position, Wilkesboro, Boomer, Broadway, Brushy Mountain, or anyone be on standby for his other position that would seem to go neglected?

NewKidOnTheBlock

Broadway and Rescue did not turn down the opportunity. The race track "fire chief" just so happens to be the Chief at Moravian Falls. And they just so happen to use their equipment over there quite often. Are they being reimbursed, who knows? But their district may or may not be covered. The track has its own equipment or borrows it from a neighboring track.

METALTRUCKER, I respect the heck out of what all of those folks do on their own time and often times not only for free, but at their own cost. I'm just concerned there is some kind of good ole Wilkes County corruption going on here.
