A Texas county commissioner and former White House liaison appointed under President Joe Biden is now looking at felony impersonation charges over alleged racist comments sent to him last fall. Taral Patel, Precinct 3 commissioner for Fort Bend County, was arrested on June 12 and is accused of creating fake accounts to send himself racist messages, according to court records.

Patel was charged with online impersonation, third degree felony, and misdemeanor misrepresentation of identity, according to a press release from the Fort Bend County District Attorney's Office. Patel posted a statement and a collage of screenshots of the alleged fake racist messages and on X formerly known as Twitter, in September 2023.

The messages called him a "dirty Pakistani," who "supports terrorists" and accusing Patel of worshipping "false gods" like "monkey" and an "elephant" in a "Christian nation."
