people really need to pay more attention when driving and accidents like this wouldn't happen. I had young girl pull out in front of me about 2 weeks ago she must of had a guardian angle with her as I still don't know how I didn't hit her. I ask her what in the HE!L she was doing and she said that she didn't even look before she pulled out.

I just realized... son of North Wilkesboro Investigator Shane Cleary

Shane is a great man, and so is his wife. I don't think that I'd ever met their son, but I'm so sorry for their loss

A North Wilkesboro man died when he was ejected from his vehicle in a head-on collision on N.C. 16 in Millers Creek on Thursday afternoon, May 9.

In a press release sent to The Wilkes Record, N.C. Highway Patrol Master Trooper Christoper Casey stated:

"On Thursday, May 9, at approximately 1:30 p.m., the N.C. State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Wilkes County on N.C. 16 near Nichols Landing Lane. A 2009 Toyota Venza was traveling south on N.C. 16 behind a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado. The Silverado slowed down preparing to make a left turn into a private driveway, and the Venza failed to reduce speed adequately and swerved to the left striking the Silverado. The Venza continued across the centerline and collided head-on with a northbound 2008 Jeep Liberty."

Casey added, "The driver of the Venza, Shane Reese Cleary, 20, of North Wilkesboro, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Cleary was not restrained by a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle."

The driver of the Silverado, William Allen Binge, 81, of Millers Creek, was not injured, Casey stated.

He added that the driver of the Liberty, Nathan Shane Oxentine, 43, of Millers Creek, was transported by EMS to Wilkes Regional Medical Center, with non-life-threatening injuries.

The initial investigation does not indicate impairment to be a contributing factor, Casey stated. During the on-scene investigation, N.C. 16 was closed in the area for approximately three hours. Casey added that no charges are expected to be filed in this case.
