As you know, the Democrats have submitted several bills that would give the President the authority to declare a national state of emergency, which would then give them the ability to stop price gouging in a national level.
Every one of those bills were blocked by the Republicans.

At the time, AT&T was the sole provider throughout most of the country. The suit went on for 8 years before AT&T agreed to break itself up into 7 smaller companies...
You said that there are 4 main companies controlling the beef industry... so, not one. Four companies isn't a monopoly.
In 1974, too, both parties agreed on pro-competitive regulation...
This ended with the Bush Jr administration, who was strongly anti-regulation.
Whether the current GOP Congress is anti-regulation or just anti-anything-that-might-help-the-Democrats, I don't know. But it's impossible to regulate business when the GOP has the ability to block it.
