Given that Galveston was a major seaport on the Gulf of Mexico for Texas for many years AND had telegraph service was extended from Houston since at least 1860 it is incredulous to claim that folks there had no knowledge of the Emancipation Proclamation prior to June 19th, 1865.

So underdog, you don't think the end of slavery is worthy of a holiday and that's why you're so upset about it?

So what holiday will you democrats dream up next to buy votes stupid?

The "I'm not a racist but" crowd are conflicted. They know racism is wrong, but they can't let go of the good old Jim Crow days. It made them feel so good to be addressed as Suh and Miz and to address a black man as boy. To be able to take advantage of cheap household help and have those people keep their place.

Now all they can do is look for isolated instances of bad behavior by blacks and condemn them as a group, "see that's what those people are like."

Willie Mays died yesterday at 93 I think it was. Great ballplayer and great man. He was honored at a Juneteenth celebration today.

I know Sleepy Joe is old, but does he really go back to 1866? Anyway, maybe if the orange mutant gets in, we'll have some more holidays. April 20th Hitler's birthday, and he can rename November 11th "Suckers and loser's" Day. there's lots of possibilities out there if you think about it. Whoa! Wait a minute what am I thinking about, asking MAGATS to think, that's going too far!

Juneteenth is a holiday commemorating the end of slavery.

Yes, it commemorates when the last slaves were freed in TX 2 years after the emancipation proclamation was signed.
