The Reagan administration slashed the priime interest rate by more than half, from an unprecedented 21.5% in January 1981 to 10% in August 1988. This achievement stemmed from the administration's shift in monetary policy aimed at controlling inflation and stimulating economic growth.

Home mortgage rates averaged about 8.85% at the onset of the Carter administration in 1977. However, by the end of Carter's presidency in 1981, home mortgage rates averaged a whopping 16.64%. Home mortgage rates have not been this high since the Carter administration.

1981, Obama or Clinton fault for sure.

At least I'm sure the low level gullibles would believe that if a certain someone spoke it.

Interesting side note... the all time high interest rate was September 1981, when it hit 15.8%.

Which was... Reagan.

I wonder, when interest rates went up under Trump before COVID... did his followers say it was his fault, or Obama's?

If you want to buy a home, get a better paying job. The jobs are there, you just have to make yourself worth the better pay.

The Feds would have to call a special meeting to help Joe with an "October surprise" rate cut.

The scheduled meetings are Sept 18 and Nov 7 (after elections). No October meeting in on the books. A rate cut in mid September is unlikely to do much for President Buffoon, whereas a mid October cut might.

Let's see what happens.

"So which is it...do you want a healthy economy, or a bad one? Do you want increased inflation, or stable

inflation?"

The above doesn't really matter to the MAGA people. What they WANT is Trump. To heck with the economy and inflation.

Central banks often change their target interest rates in response to economic activity: raising rates when the economy is overly strong and lowering rates when the economy is sluggish.

We have a strong economy right now, so they need rates to be higher to discourage excessive loans. If the economy starts to dip a little, they'll lower the rates accordingly.

It is also a key factor in reducing inflation... which you and your ilk have falsely blamed on Biden.

So which is it... do you want a healthy economy, or a bad one? Do you want increased inflation, or stable inflation?
