This makes me so mad!! Never trust anyone with your personal info on the computer or over the phone. They probably pick on people who can least afford it. Sad.

The Wilkes County Sheriff's Office in recent days received reports from two Wilkes residents saying they lost money in a Windows security alert scam, said Chief Deputy James Summers on Tuesday.

Summers said both victims reported receiving legitimate appearing "Windows Defender" alerts on their computer screens saying their computer security had been compromised and that they needed to call the "Microsoft Team" immediately.

Summers said the alert instructed the victims to call 1-800-200-3260 for immediate support, but added that this phone number can and will be different in other Windows security alert scams.

He said both victims called the 800 number and spoke with a man posing as a technician who convinced them to give him remote access to their computers.

Both victims eventually went to their banks, withdrew funds, and gave the money to a "bank courier" that arrived at their homes.
