Fire.....So if an ambulance is called to an emergency by what you're saying they must wait until the DOT can arrive sometime later to cut and remove the tree meanwhile someone could be dying...

I really never see the DOT out anywhere except for snow removal and salt the roads. I was told that when the DOT was called out for trees that the fire department would come.

Again, that is the responsibility of the DOT not the Fire Departments. If response times are an issue, maybe DOT needs to add additional personnel on the Storm Call Back list...

Faster response time....if there was an emergency nobody could get to it. The fire department doesn't remove what they cut the goal is to remove it from the road as safely and quickly as possible.

It's really gotten bad the past few years. The Fire Departments aren't a tree service or a storm debris removal company and it shouldn't be their responsibility to cut trees. I've asked several members of area departments and they can't give a reason as to why all of a sudden the uptick in calls for Trees Down. That falls under the jurisdiction of the DOT and if I'm not mistaken they have a line item in their budget for storm response. It's one thing for the Fire Departments to assist with a major storm ie the tornado that hit the Wilkesboro's a few months back but the occasional storm that brings down half a dozen trees doesn't justify a Fire Department response. Fire Departments are for REAL emergencies!

I dont know about wilkes, but the county I live in, the VFDS always cut trees out of the road after storms. An i have seen them doing it in Yadkin County also. So I dont understand the logic of your question.

In recent years, I've noticed an uptick with local Fire Departments doing work for the NC DOT... Why are the local Fire Departments dispatched to "Trees Down Across the Roadway" when that should fall under the DOT? Shouldn't the Fire Departments be called out for "REAL" emergencies?? These Fire Departments should take a stand and say, "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"!
