As of this morning, there are still over 1,100 homes without power and 150-200 are completely inaccessible because of blocked roads.
Hwy 18 to Sparta is expected to be closed for about a month

Wilkes County, NC is moving the Emergency Shelter site from West Wilkes Middle School Gymnasium to the Wilkes County Agricultural Center located at 416 Executive Drive, NC 28697 effective 2:00 PM today.
Wilkes County is one of multiple Western North Carolina counties that has been declared a federal disaster area. Individuals needing additional assistance may be eligible for federal aid under this declaration. Wilkes County Emergency Services will be sending out additional information about the process of applying for federal FEMA assistance once more info becomes available.
