Find a farmer that sells directly to the public at a reasonable price. Buy directly from them and establish a relationship as a repeat customer they will treat you right in the long run. I know it is feasible on everything but it will help.

mouse, the reason small farmers are going out of business is because of big "farmers." Wealthy businessmen and big corporations (that have no prior direct knowledge or connection with agriculture) by up huge swathes of land then undercut the small farmer. It's called unbridled capitalism.

The government mandated EPA regulations on farm equipment has raised the price to extravagant levels along with repair costs. Then the government in their wisdom banned most medicines for livestock. Where the farmer has to get a veterinarian involved. Everyone knows how prices have went up at the veterinarian. Driving a lot of small farmers out of business. The price you pay at the grocery stores the farmer gets a very small percentage.

Not that she needs the money. More farmland will continue to be sold off and urbanized. Farming is getting too expensive to be profitable.

Teresa Earnhardt, widow of the late NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt, plans to transform 399 of her rural acres in east Mooresville into an industrial park, according to her rezoning application for the vast former farmland property.
When she could do some real good, Teresa Earnhardt sells out. Just what that area needs is more Industrial development, traffic congestion, urbanization ect. When is enough money enough ?
