Still $2.65 at Wilco on Second Street Hill. Where is the post- holiday price drop?

Mr. Bush, as usual, you're not getting the point, just like when you were president. The question is why are prices higher in Wilkes than in Elkin. Likely because the good old boys republicans in Wilkes like to gouge them thare folks what vote for them. This is not about gas prices, this about why gas prices differ from town to town.

As per a comment on the article, this sounds more like the truth:

The things that influence gas prices:
1. Higher oil prices
2. Lower oil prices
3. Unrest in middle east
4. Stability in middle east
5. PRICE GOUGING BY STATION OWNERS
6. False information about world oil supplies
7. Political Elections
8. Your Mother-in-law farts
9. You fart
10. Anyone farts

Two cent drop isn't much but it's in the right direction. Now that the holiday is over I hope it hurries back down to the $2 a gallon range.

Gas prices are higher in Wilkes because Wilkes votes predominantly republican. Do the math.

Runkle, so right. In another life I purchased millions of gallons of petroleum products from gasoline, motor oil, kerosene, diesel, #5 and #6 oil. On Tuesdays we would get the price for the next seven days, today two tankers can be in line at the terminal, from the same company loading the same product. Price can vary 10¢ or more a gallon between tankers.

IT WAS CLINTON

It was Clinton, who put oil and grain on the commodities index through the "Commodities and Futures Modernization Act of 2000", allowing speculators to artificially drive up the price of oil, deplete our grain reserves and cause the price of food to skyrocket, along with gas until this most recent temporary retreat.

It was Clinton, who opened the gates for our jobs and manufacturing base to move overseas as he promoted his New World Order signing "NAFTA", "GATT" getting us into the WTO, the "U.S.-China Relations Act of 2000" and other trade agreements with any country placing paper and pen on top of his desk, while Ms. Lewinsky was doing her "job" underneath it.

It was Clinton, who in 1994, directed HUD secretary Henry Cisneros (another fine politician as it turned out) to devise a plan to assist low income families in buying homes. It was called "The National Homeownership Strategy: Partners in the American Dream", and it marked the true beginning of the housing bubble. The following is taken verbatim from this directive:

"For many potential homebuyers, the lack of cash available to accumulate the required down payment and closing costs is the major impediment to purchasing a home. Other households do not have sufficient available income to make the monthly payments on mortgages financed at market interest rates for standard loan terms. Financing strategies, fueled by the creativity and resources of the private and public sectors, should address both of these financial barriers to homeownership."

It was Clinton, who changed the Community Reinvestment Act in 1995, no longer asking, but telling the banks to issue sub-prime loans so the unqualified could buy a home.

It was Clinton, who basically said families, who can't afford the down payment and the monthly payments, should still be able to buy a house. I always thought if you can't afford a house, it meant you couldn't, and shouldn't, qualify for a loan to purchase the house. But Clinton put constant pressure on local lending institutions to make loans to low income unqualified allowing the economy to artificially appear much healthier than it was, starting us down a path of "wink and a nod" no document loans, toxic derivative mortgage backed securities and the phony housing boom.

Then there's the word "creativity". Of course, when politicians say "creativity" to bankers and stockbrokers, it takes on an entirely different meaning then when we hear it. What they hear has to do with that "giving a fox the keys to the henhouse" thing.

What you do then is invoke the "Politicians' Dictionary" where "sexual relations" doesn't mean sexual relations, and when you "lie", you didn't lie, you only "misspoke".

This especially applies to a President who, on national television, looked into our eyes, pointed his finger and deliberately "misspoke" as he used "creativity" in redefining "sexual relations" for an entire generation of American youth saying, "I never had sexual relations with that woman"
