It didn't. At the height of the recession when Obama went in it was about $1.60 here. It went up near the end of the Bush administration because of Katrina and demand from China. And some other stuff like refinery fires.

Ok, I'm going kinda off topic, but it still applies to gas prices.
If you haven't done so already, sign up for Shell Fuel Rewards. You automatically save 5 cents per gallon each time you pump your gas. I signed up online and use my phone number as my Alternate I.D. I filled up at Shell on Lewisville/Clemmons exit for $2.29/gal yesterday with the 5 cents discount.
