I saw a lady on TikTok that really showed me why we have become so divided.
She was talking about a video that another girl had made, where her boyfriend said he'd be there at 3 after he finished playing golf. She posted at 3, then at 3:30 when he wasn't there... at 4 when he wasn't there... at 5 when he wasn't there... and so on.
When this woman looked at the comments, she saw what she expected... a bunch of people talking about how rude and inconsiderate the boyfriend was.
Then this woman shared the video to her boyfriend, who also looked at the comments. What he saw was a bunch of people talking about how she needed to stop being so controlling, give him his freedom, and so on!
She said that when she scrolled through the comments on her own phone, she couldn't even find those comments!
This is where the problem comes in... social media shows you what it thinks you want to hear, based on your age, gender, race, and other comments that you've liked. You don't even have the option of seeing opposing points of view, all you see is that everyone in the world thinks like you do!
I think that this explains a lot. You have people like singer that think everyone obviously loves Trump, everyone obviously hates Biden, the election was obviously rigged... all because social media has led her to believe that everyone agrees with her.
