Forky, thank you for showing the difference in the Exodus account and the Jeremiah retelling of the event. As I said, the only place that God is recorded as saying: "If you obey My Voice I will be your God and you will be My people" is in Jeremiah 7 and then in a historical context.

Earlier in Exodus 19, the 3rd verse plainly says that God directed Moses to make the offer to be a chosen people only to the Israelites.

It is a perversion to pretend that offer was made to anyone other than the Israelites.

Exodus 19:5
King James Version
5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:

Jeremiah
King James Bible
But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.

Once again, in the spirit of pedantic, I feel it necessary to point out that Forky's last "God quote" appears nowhere in the Bible as an open invitation to anyone. His use of it as an ivitation is a percersion. Instead, it is only found in Jeremiah chapter 7 as a history lesson, given by God to Jeremiah.

Jeremiah 7:23 says "This is what I [God] told them [the Isarelites] Obey Me and I will be your God and you will be people. (NLT)" The very next verse recounts "But My people would not listen to me."

anti. Did God speak it or MOSES???

Leviticus 23:26 starts with, "The Lord said to Moses." So God said it, not Moses

The Lord said to Moses. DID THE PEOPLE HEAR WHAT THE LORD SAID?
READ DEUTERONOMY 18 THE PROPHECY THAT JE SPOKE.

God Said that if you obey his Voice you would be his people. The Israelites promise to follow Moses in all HE said.

mhj is a tossup between the seven day adventist an the jehovah witness. Hes more seven day then jehoveh but hes got a little bit of both in his beliefs. Which is fine as long as he keeps it to himself.

It is always hilarious when the non-religious try to use any religious text to start an argument!

It is still breaking a law. The Bible says we should obey the laws of the land that do not go against God. So, just like your No Swimming example this would fit! I have Faith in Jesus. I know His promises are very true. You however, twist scripture to fit your ideology. To tell someone they are not saved because they do not observe the Sabbath on Saturday is a bit much. I pray that you will open your eyes to all the wrongs you are spreading. Your reasoning is absurd.

Mikey, do you always abide by the speed limit?
&&&&&&

See you showing your ignorance. Since when is breaking the speed limit created by Man go Against the LAWS of God. You take the teaching of Paul twisting them to create your SAVED by Grace. If you read it correctly you WILL see that through FAITH we are SAVED by Grace. It takes FAITH in Jesus to receive it. Do you have FAITH in the Resurrection??? If so stay in the teaching of Jesus not works by religion..

If you see a sign that says NO SWIMMING under penalty of Death. Do you swim? Before Jesus the world didn't know about what sin was.

NOW YOU DO..

The good thing about Anti is that she is not misleading anyone with her ignorance of the scriptures. She has lied so much hardly anyone on here believes anything she posts.

Unless I am mistaken, the original poster's intent was to shine a spotlight on those of us who sermonize about the sins of others. It may also have been an attempt to bring into focus the hypocrisy of several of us who are quick to hold fast to some small part of theology without incorporating the whole of our text. I appreciate the spirit and even the panache.

I must confess that it is simple pedantry (and a slow morning at the office) that compels me to point out that I think the original poster's commentary in the first post "Since God Himself said that "this is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live," this can't be one that only applied to Jews, either." is plain error.

Several chapters of Leviticus, including the first one (which is the author's introduction of the entire work) and the 23rd one from which the original poster drew the subject text begin with an expression similar to "The Lord said to Moses, "Give the following instructions to the people of Israel." (Leviticus 1:1-2(a) NLT.) In fact, the 23rd Chapter of Leviticus includes the following: "Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. These are the Lord's appointed festivals, which you are to proclaim as official days for holy assembly." (Leviticus 23:2 NLT.)

Since there is nothing in the text of Leviticus which directs Moses or anyone else to instruct any other group beyond the specified "people of Israel" I think it reasonable to assert that the instructions were not intended for any other group of people.

Patriot, yes we are all sinners. That's the one thing Mikey can't through his thick skull. Just because we are saved by the blood of Christ does not mean we are not still human. We all fall short from time to time. By asking forgiveness from the Lord we accept that we sinned and move on to try again. His grace covers us! Our salvation gives us the ability to go straight to God with our problems and our praises. We do not have to go through anyone else to do so.

If you see a sign that says NO SWIMMING under penalty of Death. Do you swim? Before Jesus the world didn't know about what sin was. No you do. Jesus because you think Grace has saved you even though you sin you're stupid. Grace is given because you have FAITH in Jesus. Jesus even tells you that you got NO REASON TO SIN BECAUSE NOW YOU KNOW WHAT SIN IS. Jesus obeyed the Father so we also should follow the Fathers Laws not Moses or mans religion.
Read Matthew 4 and let it soak in we are to live by the words proceeded from God.

Jesus answered by quoting Deuteronomy: "It takes more than bread to stay alive. It takes a steady stream of words from God's mouth."

It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

The Only Way to Know We're in Him

2-3 Here's how we can be sure that we know God in the right way: Keep his commandments.

4-6 If someone claims, "I know him well!" but doesn't keep his commandments, he's obviously a liar. His life doesn't match his words. But the one who keeps God's word is the person in whom we see God's mature love. This is the only way to be sure we're in God. Anyone who claims to be intimate with God ought to live the same kind of life Jesus lived.

anti. ðŸ'¬ if you can

When the Pharisees, a money-obsessed bunch, heard him say these things, they rolled their eyes, dismissing him as hopelessly out of touch. So Jesus spoke to them: "You are masters at making yourselves look good in front of others, but God knows what's behind the appearance.

What society sees and calls monumental,
God sees through and calls monstrous.
God's Law and the Prophets climaxed in John;
Now it's all kingdom of God-the glad news
and compelling invitation to every man and woman.
The sky will disintegrate and the earth dissolve
before a single letter of God's Law wears out.
