How are young people supposed to survive when everything costs so much under the Biden administration

You're right, Lester, I found that the estimated cost for a 0-2 year old in San Francisco is $2,459...

As of 2022, the average household income in San Francisco was $135,366...

That means that the daycare for a baby is 21.8% of their income... a little higher than the 18.84% in Wilkes.

But, of course, subsidies exist... a married couple with one child can get assistance if they make less than $6,931 a month...

Don't breed 'em if ya can't feed 'em or afford daycare.

"The point is that your $2500 claim is grossly exaggerated. I'm sure it exists somewhere, it's just not the average like you're implying."

My daughter and her husband paid $2,800 a month for infant care in San Francisco last year. They could have paid more, but settled for one of the national day care centers (I think it was Kindercare) so I'm sure that $2500 is an average. It did drop slightly after grand daughter turned two. One of many reasons they left Californa.

Reading your article, ht... am I reading correctly that they pay daycare teachers with a degree somewhere between $14 and $15 an hour?

No wonder there's a shortage! They make more than that working at Burger King, with none of the risk I wouldn't do it, either.

Sorry y'all, it's the same article three times! The one I saw first was the ednc article. We have early childhood professionals in our family, and it has been a real bummer for them to see the decrease in access and in public interest.

Ok Anonymoose, you were right.

Just out of curiosity, is the fact that it was on yahoo as well as 74million somehow make this less true? I don't understand why it matters.

It was on yahoo a liberal media outlet

I think that the access is the real problem. There are simply not enough slots, so more and more, parents have to choose to forego working so their children will have care during the day until they are old enough to go to school.

There was an awesome article about Wilkes specifically - I'll look for it.

The point is that your $2500 claim is grossly exaggerated. I'm sure it exists somewhere, it's just not the average like you're implying.

Daycare is average 12% in California, and 18% in Wilkes.

More and more one person who are married are having to stay home to take care of the kids.

That's just nonsense, we have the strongest economy we've had in years! With higher wages, near record low unemployment, and more people wanting to buy a home than we have to sell... the exact opposite of your claim.

Since the topic is California, the only people that would "have" to stay home instead of working would be those that would make less than $900 a month.Minimum wage in California is $16 an hour... if they work more than 14 hours a week at minimum wage then they've covered the cost of daycare.

Child care isn't subsidized if you're married .

False.

Subsidies are based on income and they are also available to parents who don't have a job. I think priority should be given to working parents.

More and more one person who are married are having to stay home to take care of the kids. Child care isn't subsidized if you're married . The that puts home ownership out of reach for most.

Child care is also subsidized in Wilkes County, and the rest of NC.

False. The average for California is $900 a month...

And the average household income for California was $7,108 a month in 2022...

So the average daycare is 12.66% of the average income.

In comparison, the average household income in Wilkes is $4,093 a month, and the average daycare in Wilkes is $771. That's 18.84%.

This means that daycare is considerably cheaper in California than it is in Wilkes.

California daycare is also subsidized, which provides free or discounted care...
