I don't think political parties mean anything in local politics. Look at the spending done by Republicans here.

Wiles democrats must not be as smart as the ones in Ashe. Here after running for office unsuccessfully as a Dem they simply change their voter registration to Republican and the next election they win a spot on the board

And you have every right to love the gop. Surely with all your experience you can list the wondrous things they have done to improve your life or loved ones ? PLEASE share what makes them so wonderful ? Got a large list of what the Democrats have done and still trying to do for someone but the top one percent. Anxious to hear ??

Truth, you are so right but that is what is so dangerous. What will be leading Sexton and Johnson now? And were they involved in the dirty deeds?

Old lady, they have missed a great opportunity with the Lowe's/Mall building, but thats what happens when Johnson and Sexton did whatever that id**t Greene told them to do, he was their pied piper. Greene is undoubtedly the dumb*st county commissioner in Wilkes County history. He is arrogant and ignorant, which is a deadly and dangerous combination.

This county would be nothing without that company. You do not realize the contributions that have made to this county through the employees of that company and through the company itself. I can't even recall all the parks, the playgrounds and other donations from this company. How about the county school building? This was donated to the county by Lowes. They were going to purchase it, and only made one payment was made and the rest was donated. You would have been stuck with the cost of another building.

How about the county library? I think this was paid for mostly by the Herring Foundation.

With the attitudes of citizens, it was the best thing for the company to leave. The commissioners before Lowes left are acting the exact way now. These s just cost the citizens $32 M , when they could have purchased a facility completely furnished for $7M, 10 times larger than what they are building. Pure stupidity. Just like the group Handy and Bowman. How many companies will be leaving?

Grrranimal, I agree with your assessment of what the local govt of Bentonville, Arkansas did to keep Walmarts corporate HQ there. They had the vision and understanding of the $ that is brings to their tax base, spend now and get more back later, and the Wilkes local govt let that slip away, but at the same time also, the CEO at that time, Bob Tillman, hated Wilkes and wanted out of here anyway he could get out. It was inevitable unfortunately.

People didn't want to move to Bentonville, Arkansas until Walmart and the local government made it a place that people wanted to call home.

Local leadership and Lowe's both screwed Wilkes. You can assign any particular percentage of blame that you wish on that, but I've always felt that local leadership has most of the onus on them. People will go where the jobs are, plane and simple.

In my opinion no American should be voting for any democrat.

There is no democrat party . And they won't recover after Trump reveals the yr s of election cheating and fires thousands of gov workers that is part of the swamp. If the dem you voted for doesn't stand with Trump and MAGA then they are just part of the problem.

Did any local dem come forward and denounce the lies being told that biden was sharp and running circles behind the scenes.

Did any local dem change their reg . to repub or indie. If not then all local dems ore just part of the DC swamp.

Otherwise they would not still call themselves a democrat.

I will not vote for any democrat. The sooner they are finished the better is ever ything for thi country and ultimatley better for the world. .

Put the dem party completely out of business in Wilkes and everywhere else .

The are 'the enemy within'. and MUST be DESTROYED.

People refused to move here. In fact, only one top executive lived in Wilkes. These others lived either in Winston, or in the mountains, or Lake Norman. There was not enough housing just like now. And not enough qualified people to work.

The Lowe's BS that they could not attract people to Wilkes is easily refuted by what Bentonville, AR has become.

interesting fact, the Lowes CEO at the time, Bob Tillman, played those commissioners for the s that they were so he could shift all the blame for the Lowes move onto them, which he did perfectly. He didn't become Lowes CEO and lead the largest expansion in company history because he was dumb, and I didn't agree with his statement," I am tired of making millionaires out these uneducated rednecks", but there was some truth to that statement. I agree that a lot of people in Wilkes gave a lot of themselves to help Lowes grow and thrive, but lets face it, no way they would have become a Fortune 50 level company based in Wilkes, they would have never attracted the talent needed to reach that point, harsh but true. I can't remember if Bowman resigned like that Greene.

Handy had issues as a commissioner. If my memory is correct, he served during some of the time with Bowman. This unfortunately was a time that issues happened with Lowes. And their CEO decided to leave this county because of some of their actions.

As we know, Bowman got into legal issues. Handy got caught for using dealer tags on his personal vehicles. Certainly not good for someone that votes to increase other citizen's taxes, yet he is trying to beat the system.

I don't think independents could get elected unless people become aware of exactly what has happened in the past and currently.

Didn't Bowman have to resign just like Greene?

I wonder what would happen if people ran as Independents? I know that s lot of people vote the party line so maybe that would shake things up a little bit.
