A robbery attempt at a Harris t**ter store led to several people being sprayed with bear spray in south Charlotte on Sunday. The incident happened at the Harris t**ter on Carnegie Boulevard, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Robbery suspects hit seven or eight employees with bear spray after a man tried to confront them for stealing, according to police. Police are searching for three suspects, two females and one male. A Venezuelan national who's allegedly a ranking member of a well-known gang was arrested in Charlotte over Labor Day weekend. Eleazer Kasshoggi Mujica-Rojas, also known as La Fresa, was arrested in Charlotte on Sunday, Sept. 1. Mujica-Rojas is an alleged member of the Venezuelan-based gang Tren de Aragua, and was wanted in Texas. Mujica-Rojas is accused of illegally entering the United States in 2022, and allegedly lying to acquire an Employment Authorization Card, according to a July criminal complaint filed in a U.S. District Court in Texas. The man reportedly swam across the Rio Grande River and entered the U.S. near Eagle Pass, Texas.
According to the July criminal complaint, an arrest warrant was issued in December 2023 for Mujica-Rojas for several crimes, including terrorism, trafficking in arms and ammunition, money laundering, aggravated extortion, and association to crime. Mujica-Rojas has been identified as a lieutenant of Tren de Aragua, according to authorities. Court documents claim the man has been "listed in numerous foreign open-source news articles for his involvement as a ranking member" of the criminal organization. The gang, known for "committing violent acts" in Venezuela and Latin America, has been carrying out more and more crime in the U.S., officials say.
