What happened to the basic car that most people can fix?

I got a set of two front rotors and brake pads from Rock Auto back in the summer. The complete set cost me about $30 more than just one rotor from a local parts store. And it was Raybestos a good quality brand.

Online ordering will eventually put all retail stores out of business.

The problem I've been having is that 50% of the parts I buy online are defective. It's a lot easier to return parts to a store like Advance than it is to return them to the online seller and then wait for the refund or even fight for it.

I have had good luck with RockAuto, and 1A Auto.

Advance Auto Parts said Thursday it will close about 500 stores by mid-2025 and cut some jobs under a restructuring effort, as demand for vehicle parts takes a hit from fewer consumers opting to repair their cars, sending its shares up 4.5% in afternoon trading.

I think their problem is that you can buy most parts at least 50% cheaper online than at their stores. They've just got too greedy. Needed a camshaft position sensor, $30 online, $80 at parts store. An axle bearing, $80 at store $25 online.
