To go and park in thar area. NOT IN THE US421 ROADWAY.

But? Please Please give up 30 minutes or more.
Watching the motoring north to south traffic. Specifically their highway speeds. Hoe many instances vehicles. Are surprised by slow or stopped traffic. How many vehicles may be surprised.
At not paying attention to the traffic signals.
How many almost "blow thru","apply brakes very hard. As to not run a red light or rear-end stopped or very slow traffic.
CHALLENGE GIVEN.

I have never heard a good explanation as to why the police don't issue tickets in that area. The only time I've ever seen a cop on that road is in response to an accident.

Hey antZ, YOU may not comprehend this, BUT the speed limit through that section is 45mph AND coulda been enforced or possibly even lowered AND enforced.

I don't think any amount of police could have fixed it, really.
Merging from West D onto 421 was just taking your life into your own hands. The bushes made it impossible to see, so all you could really do was try to gauge merging in at 50mph with a stop light right in front of you.
And if you're doing it in the evening, you were doing all of this with the sun in your eyes.
If you needed to turn left into Kohls, you had to merge at 50mph AND move 3 lanes over within about 600 feet!
Almost as bad was if you had to turn left into Walmart, but at least you had 2,000 feet to move 3 lanes over.

IF the Wilkesboro PD had done their job AND strictly enforced their speed limits this boondoggle woulda not been necessary.

Greenery in the median. Traffic lights added at each or at least middling. Between olive garden and at Myers tire. Someway some how to reduce traffic speeds for safety.
HOPEfully a "super street" on north and south sides.

At least they took down the trees so yiu can see to merge. Whoever's bright idea to plant them should have been fired.

It is going to be a screwed up situation until local residents learns the procedure. Then we will have to watch out for out of towners trying to figure out how to get into businesses as they pass through. It's going to be just like the four way stops signs that democrat and republican leadership engineered in Wilkesboro and North Wilkesboro., ever one will stop and sit there and look at each other.

The original project went up 421 about a half mile past the NC 16 intersection with two additional turn around spots.
The current proposal is nearly 1 1/2 miles shorter, therefore your reference IS erroneous by at least 20%.

As far as I have heard the only thing that has changed is that the project no longer goes all the way to Hwy 16 so it not really erroneous if the rest is as stated. Also read the red box in the upper right hand of each map it tell you that they are subject to change

I'm just happy it's began at least.
Should help the traffic flow. Mostly make it safer owing car speeds.

You will no longer be able to turn left to get on 421.
The road along the homeless camp will be gone.
You can't go straight at the lights at the Valaro near Lowe's Food.
The road you used to be able to get from 421 West to the lights near the "future home of Highway 55" resturant is being restored.
Happy motering for the next 8 years.
