Thanks all. I think I'll head back to Staples before I order online. I'd like to get it right away.

Day Dreamer - I got it at Staples here in Wilkesboro. Worth checking out to see if they have any more right now since it is just after Christmas. I take my laptop with me a good bit and never had a problem.

BTW, I got mine for about $35 some time back, for whatever the reason, the price went up on them recently.
You can get them from Amazon.com for about $39 right now.

golden, that sounds just like what toe is suggesting. Did you find that at a Staples in Wilkes?

I have a logitech that I bought at Staples. The stick is so small that it only protrudes about a quarter of an inch from the port and what does stick out is hard plastic. I just put it in and forgot about it. No bending. If I recall, it and the laser mouse came together for about $40. Both are the best I have ever used.

Did you click on the link that toe posted? There is no stick {length wise anyway}. It's perfect. I wish I had known they made those a long time ago. Would have saved me a bunch of money.
The sticks are just too long and too easy to mess up.

I have used the same microsoft on my laptop now for over 6 years and never had to replace it. I carried my laptop all over the world, no problem.

no. The little piece that plugs into your computer IS the bluetooth transceiver, and it communicates with your mouse. If you're running XP or Vista you shouldn't have any trouble.
It comes with the software drivers. There's no extra hidden revolving fees... it's not like wireless internet. It just sends a low intensity radio signal to your mouse and nothing else.

oh yeah, toetagger's is a much better solution
no pesky wire like with the pod, no stick poking out to hit

Thank you so much. That is exactly what I need. Do you have to purchase bluetooth {I've never used bluetooth} or does the software that comes w/ it have everything?

The nano receiver (the small plastic piece with a USB end on it) is inserted into the USB port and I NEVER take mine out. I always leave it in, thus never lose it that way.

Thank you toe, that is exactly what I need. Are those any more expensive? I did not see one like that at our Walmart or Staples; but, I would be willing to drive or order online.
The plastic piece gets hit and bent away from the metal part that goes into the computer on the other ones. I had one that didn't even last an hour before one of my kids broke it.

Get a bluetooth wireless mouse with a micro usb stick like this:

You can find them at Best Buy or Walmart, practically anywhere. The other ones with HUGE USB sticks are impractical.

mtnbiker, I don't think I've ever seen one made like that. I may have to check into it. $30 and up every time the stick gets bent is getting really old. It would be easier to replace just the stick instead of the mouse and stick.
That or I'm going to have to go back to the wire.

used both Logitech and Microsoft brands ... the stick adaptors look basically the same to me
some of the receivers though are little pod looking things which set out on the desktop. Not even sure if they still make em this way cause I can see where the sticks are more compact and you don't have the wire between pod and usb .... these still plug into the usb ports of course but they might be a little less prone to damage than the sticks ... hope it helps

USB adapter damaged. I have had to replace my wireless mouse multiple times because the USB sticks get damaged so easily. Slightly bump one and it's bent and no longer works. I currently use Microsoft brand. Anyone know of a brand that might have a more "heavy duty" usb adapter?
