The only way you can use it wireless without getting a cable or DSL internet run into you house is to get a card from a cell phone service. That is costly. About $65 a month. The good part to that is that you will be able to use it anywhere and not just around your house

We have Sprint MiFi (Verizon also has it available) and it works fine. We travel a good bit, so we can now take our Internet with us seeing the device is about the size of a credit card, just thicker. It runs in the $65/month range.

Verizon was 50 or 60 last I checked been a while, you can check online) ... at that time Carolina West had also dropped their aircard rate down to $30 (no idea what it is now) for use in the CWest service area ... it was more expensive for the service if you could use it in other areas

Call Wilkes Telephone and see if they have service in your area. Then you are going to have to buy a router. i got mine at Walmart years ago. It's going to cost you around $50 or so a month. But if you get an air card, say from Verizon it's about the same and you can use your laptop anywhere not just at your home. Direct TV was very expensive the last time I checked but that was years ago.

years ago the equipment to use internet with DirecTV was gawdawful expensive and there was a long commitment required ... emphasis on the "years ago" part, it may have changed

I don't have cable but I have DirecTV. I want wireless as in I can use my laptop around my house wirelessly.

if you have cable you could get internet with them. or do you want wireless as in like a cell ph system so wherever you can use cell you could use the laptop?

No I don't have a desktop. It crashed a while back so thats why i'm getting a laptop. I called Embarq and they said I have to have a house phone.

Do you have internet hooked to a desk top now?
You can buy a wireless router, hook it to your desktop, and your laptop will run off that.

I'm getting a laptop for Christmas and I was wondering if anyone knows who I can get wireless internet through since I don't have a house phone. I live in Wilkesboro.
