Casper I was at Walmart last night. You can get a nice USB Wireless card fairly cheap. It my be an option to try, disable the old one though!

If you've spent more than 4 hours trying to get it to work, disable it and go buy a new one, or take it to a friend that isn't afraid to break your laptop. Not saying they will, but hey, it happens.
I don't have any suggestions other than to check for proper drivers for the card on the sony site (I assume it came with the laptop from sony) if you cant find the real manufacturer (fcc id suggested before works great most of the time!) Blue has already suggested everything I could think of without having the laptop in hand.

mine was easy to get at it was in the bottom of the laptop, remove a cover, one screw and you could see it. I removed the battery, unplugged it and then took the little screw out and there it was. I didn't see the wire until I removed the card. I saw it was unplugged! I still get a little ticked about that when I think about it! LOL! Just locate a manual for your lappy and just look it may give you an ideal as to what to check. Nothing hurt by looking at the manual!

what was odd about it did show a signal but boys it would not connect or see any networks even if they was like 6 feet away!
If you can access the card really easy check it and see if everything looks right with it. Sony should have a manual for that lappy and show you where to look for the card and tell you a location of the antenna if it needs one or has one.

mine had no place out side the lappy for an antenna. What it did have was a wire that was inside the display it went up one side of it. When I was at my wits end. I removed the card to check it out and found the little plug disconnected from the PCI card. plugged it up and problem solved! I was really mad! LOL!

It's not recognizing any networks whatsoever, and there's no spot for an antenna...it's all internal...i'm lost...and thanks again for your help, Blue.

I am wondering if that card has an antenna that connects externally. Some do and some use an antenna that is in the display, I am wondering if that is connected. I ran into that once myself...I bought a lappy off Ebay and the antenna wasn't connected to the danged card. IT took me a week to figure that out! Everything was working but hey No signal!

it's an internal card, nothing showing on the outside of the lappy...also, it will not recognize any available networks...wouldn't show the router or the network at my job or at McD's. it's an Orinoco Wireless LAN Mini PCI Card, and i've tried connecting with and without the firewall in operation...

my card also has software that came with it. You can click the icon and it brings up several tabs the most useful is the one showing the networks in a given area and then by name you can tell it to connect to a network. like example your wireless network is called Linksys and then you can click on that network and wa-la. My is set to connect to any network that will allow it.
it maybe you are missing the software for the card...I doubt that but it could very well be your problem.
I ran into a problem once similar to yours and it was the FIREWALL settings. I found it by accident when I turned OFF the WINDERS Firewall.

my card has lights on it. OK when it tries to connect the lights will blink or if it sees incoming traffic another light blinks. Does this card have any lights on it? IF so do the blink when you are trying to connect?

do you have any other computers on the network? also are you using a FIREWALL? Linksys routers normally have a firewall in them and sometimes you have to manually tell them to let something connect.
