Windows Live Messenger, how to get rid of

thanks Satan, I just scanned that article / link and it actually makes sense. I've bookmarked it for future ref .... because (drumroll please) .... Labs4us pointing out I needed to delete from the Menu Bar on iE seems to have disabled it (for now at least).

delete from menu bar and add and remove programs i had the same problem with windows live messenger pain in the #### it was

biker, go up there to tools, then internet options, and see if you can change your mail program

Satan, uninstalled everything Windows Live related in the programs menu .... this is one of those herpes for windows things, never goes away LOL .... I'd heard it was more complicated than a simple uninstall ... dangit
here's the link to confirm what comes up .... in this case it was because I was trying to respond to a Craig's list post but it happens elsewhere too

uninstall "windows live messenger" click "start".... click "control panel"....double click "programs and features" click "windows live messenger" then go to the top of the window click " uninstall " follow the prompts

Often when I click a website link to respond via email the page for Windows Live pops up. This happens on XP and also on Vista. I think this has to do with having downloaded Windows Messenger and it's one of those sneaky add on things, but I'm not sure if that's the cause.
Is there a way to rid my computer (and my life) of this? (PLEASE, only respond if you really know what to do .... I already know Microsoft sucks and only want responses if you KNOW how to correct this)
