The installation was basically glitch-free. But it was s o s l o w!
Everything's working fine, and Win-7 fixed many of my headaches, like the slowest shutdown times I've ever seen!

I upgraded my laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate, which is a Dell 1720 (2.2-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7500, 4 GB ram, with 360 hard drive and it is over half full). I used a disc and it still took a little over four hours.

Thanks, Forever. Know how I got it to work? I uninstalled the Windows Vista version, and tried to install the latest Vista version. It wouldn't let me. But doing it put the tile in Windows Media Center to download and install Netflix (and Silverlight) from there.
Ain't computers freakin' wonderful? LOL!

You need to first install Silverlight, then install this add-in -
I don't use Windows 7 so I haven't tried it, but I read a lot of references to it.

It took about two hours and forty-five minutes. I didn't shut it down, because I could see that it was actually "working"...the installation (file count, etc.) kept advancing...just slow as molasses.
Getting the accessibility options set up so the computer is usable with my horrible vision took another few minutes.
But everything seems to work fine. The system boots much faster. And it's always been the slowest machine on the planet to shut down. Now, it's very snappy.
I lost streaming Netflix from Windows Media Center, and am not quite sure how to get it back. There's no icon to click on in Media Center to add it, as there was before. Is there a way to force the installation of Netflix within Media Center?
That's a pretty-small nit to pick. So far, so good. I'm tired of messing with the freaking laptop. I'll piddle with it tonight when I've had time to rest!

I did a clean install from a disc in 1.5 hours, beyond 2 hours? if it goes by 3 hours I'd shut it down and reboot on vista, try it again.
I love windows 7

I have a 10mbps down connection. But it's usually much faster than that.

I'm installing the Windows 7 upgrade on my Gateway NV5214u laptop, and it's now gone well past two hours.
I've heard of people installing the upgrade in a half-hour. If you don't have a disk-image that you just blas onto your system, I don't see how that's possible.
How long did your installation take? My laptop doesn't have lots of clutter, so I'm doing an "in-place" upgrade (from Vista Home Premium 64 bit), rather than a clean-install.
