Bypass the developer and designer; try using a free domain hosting site that provides templates. If you have made your website and only need a way for customers to purchase and checkout, I have had some experience using Webs.com's Web Store.

The Web Store app for their templates provides quick listing features and easy methods for checkout using PayPal, Visa, etc...

This may be worth a try; you can easily import your HTML source into the Template Editor. Since Webs.com is free to use, you can test this method out with no obligations.

Thanks,
Devin Martinez

There is a significant difference between a web designer and a web developer. A web developer uses template programs (like the free ones located at http://www.gowilkes.com/hosting/ ), and simply inserts your data.

A web designer, on the other hand, creates a unique and custom website for each client. The difference between the two is like comparing an architect to a contractor.

Frankly, I don't know of any decent web designers that will work for $75 /hour; the "normal" rate ranges from $200 to $500 /hour.

Then, there's a separate category for "programmers", which is what you need to write a shopping cart program for you. A quality programmer will usually charge closer to the $500 /hour range.

Do you remember the old saying, "the sting of poor quality lasts much longer than the sweetness of a low price"? This is definitely true with your website. Keep in mind that a poor quality or amateur website can make your entire business look poor and amateur, so it can actually do more damage to you than anything else.

Because of this, I would strongly advise hiring the best web designer that you can, even if it means sacrificing some of the features. Then, work toward adding the features as you can afford them. Otherwise, you'll more than likely end up spending just as much money in the long run, but seeing less benefit from it.

(Also, please note that this thread will be moved to Tech Talk shortly, which is more appropriate for these types of topics.)

This isn't going to be around long.

I am looking to have a website designed which would need check out capability. I talked with a designer who wanted $75 an hour to do it. Anyone out there with knowledge of who to use or your experience with having your website designed I would like to hear your input. Thanks in advance.
