For those that don't know what we are talking about, here is a brief overview of wardriving. Wardriving is driving around with a device or laptop running an application that searches for wireless networks. The program tells the driver whether the network is secure or not. What Mannoc says he is doing is then figures out where the signal is coming from and offers to help the person secure their network. It's easy enough to use the signal strength to figure this out. Where this really gets bad is that some not so honest people will park within these unsecure networks and use them to get on the internet, sometimes even launching attacks on other networks. I have no proof that Mannoc is doing this, Over the years I have become jaded and tend to assume anyone who would wardrive would attemt to at least poke around in the network.

smitty is misleading on his wardring statement. you can visit my website and see for your self.
http://www.pro-tech.5u.com
at the bottom this is exactly what is on there.

"A hobby of mine is to wardrive and look for unsecure wireless connections. When I find these connections I try to pin point the location and offer my security services. In my county one out of eight wireless connections are using some kind of encryption.
the rest are open for rouge connections, so how secure is your network"

no where does it say that i log on to the network.
i pin point the location and offer security services.

Mannoc,

Just because I hurt your feelings doesn't give you grounds for libel or slander. I have posted my opinions based on the information you provided. I have stated my opinions based on what I believe to be true based strictly on your posts. If you can honestly tell me where I am wrong, lied, or misstated anything I will willingly apologize.

If you came here and started out saying you were trying to start up a computer/network business, that would be all well and good. One of the most successful computer businesses in Wilkes is run by a man that used to cut my hair.

But you came in here and said you were worth $80,000 because you graduated from ECPI and took some CompTIA certifications. The website you continually post says your degree is an associates degree, which is a 2 year degree. You did not list any real world experience. In the NC job market most places require a 4 year degree or 4 years experience to even get in the door of a junior position paying $30-40,000. An $80,000 position is a senior position that requires a 4 year degree and 5-7 years of full time work experience. You then claimed to make $60,000 working in Ga. Someone pointed out that you work or worked at Tyson, which you say ended 4 weeks ago because your company took off with a new contract. How are you basing your claim of $60k?

Now, you want to be taken seriously as a computer and network sales business. How about you answer the following questions that I have asked or implied in earlier post.

1. What real world experience do you have that would lead me to recommend your company? How many years of experience do you and your employees have in network design and installation?

2. How can a customer trust the licensing of your software? You are selling a computer for $500 that is running Windows XP and Office? Under what license program are these being purchased and resold? If you are purchasing educational versions and selling them as full licenses this is dishonest.

3. Do you have an Employer Identification Number? A reseller's license?

4. Do you have a store front? How many employees?

I have always, and will always recommend to anyone that asks me not to buy a computer from someone that sells out of their house. This is because I have yet to see one of these businesses succeed long enough to support the systems they have sold. I have seen a lot of poor quality boxes that were not worth the cost. I have also seen a lot of people burnt on licensing.

Besides my problem with your claims of self-worth, I also have a problem with you because you wardrive, which comes straight from the website you have repeatedly posted. You do know that actually connecting to a network is illegal? You can use whatever you want to display the presence of a network but connecting to the network is a no-no. Here is an article about it: http://reviews.cnet.com/452... If you are connecting with networks without the owners permission I would recommend you stop.

On top of this, you made false claims against Dell in order to try and make your "custom" systems more attractive.

If you don't want me to dog you, come clean. You seem to be trying to kick off a startup pc/network company. That's all well and good. Be honest about your level of experience. Don't try to brag about what you think you are worth. Make sure your licensing is proper and in order. Be professional in what you do and how you do it. Do this and I will leave you alone. Show me one place where I have made an incorrect or dishonest statement and I will publicly apologize.

You are funny Mannoc. One minute you are working for a company in Ga making $60k and now you are running your own company. This gets deeper and deeper. I pity the guy that has to clean up your messes, like I have had to do for dozens of wannabe's like you. 4 weeks? One big contract? What happens when they find out you don't have the volume to get discounts and preferred services from Cisco? When they find out you don't have any real experience?

I spend plenty of time "out of my cube" and I don't have to do the newbie jobs of punch downs in telco closets any more.

if you work for someone else. like yourself you cant make any money you make others money, my house burned down last year while i was starting my company so i needed a quick job that paid more that 10.00 hourly. now i work for my self full time and am doing great. maybe you need to get out of the telco closet sometime sounds like you need some fresh air.

Ok, Mannoc, now can you explain this? If you were working at Tyson until 4 weeks ago how can your statement, "I drive five hours to work and stay or months at a time or just a few days just whatever is needed" be true? I know tyson wouldn' t let you disappear for months at a time. So you are working for a startup company, and are project based. If you want to get that $80K job, you need to go back to school. There are no major employers that will pay $80k without a BS degree from an accredited 4 year college. These windup 2 year degrees from ITT or ECPI are pretty useless.

Just remember.. No matter how good you think you are (or may be), there is always someone just a wee bit better.

Cain and Abel does not sniff and decode https exactly. What it does is use ARP poisoning to perform a "Man in the middle attack". That is why the machine running Cain and Abel has to be on the same network.

If you are installing networks in Ga, how do you have time to try and drum up personal business and wardrive in Wilkes County, NC?

just an update. I am currently installing networks in GA making 60,000/yr working my way to 80+. and it is possible to decrypt ssl with cain and able. check it out. you have to be on the same network and capture the process the target took to access the ssl site. research cain and able. I will no longer post to anyone on here. I hope you treat smitty with more respect that you did me. Seems like someone that is smart enough to lame everything down for you newbs.

Some of what Mannoc is true, some is somewhat inaccurate. If your IP is known, you can be open to differnet attacks.

For him to capture all the packets from your computer, he would have to have a sniffer on the specific subnet that you were on. He would be unable to decode ssl encrypted (https) packets. Anywhere else would only pick up packets going through that node.

To attack your computer from the internet, he would have to use TCP, UDP or ICMP. Ping requires ICMP, but is shut off now due to some viruses that were let loose a few years ago. Every once in a while a new exploit is discovered that allows a hacker to gain access or otherwise affect a computer. That is why it is important to keep your Windows patches up to date. If you run a router, such as linksys, then you are more protected because it does not let unsolicited access to specific ports. Of course firewall programs or "internet security" programs also work.

Hacking Exposed is a good book, and has some interesting info on enumerating a network. Tools like NMAP are great to see what ports are accessible and can give script kiddies like Mannoc a place to start testing for exploits such as buffer overruns.

In case you want to compare yourself to me Mannoc, I am a paid Senior P/A with 19 years of computer experience and have spent quite a few years doing hardware and networking in the past. I have a B.S. in Computer Science and have worked on more platforms than I can remember. You don't get $80K for just spending money on school 3.8 or not.

if you will look you will see that i am not mcsa certified yet if you want i can start being an a** to everyone instead of trying to help for 'free" why dont all of you point your frustration else where. all i did was respond with my answer of facts that i have done myself. I didnt ask for a full on attack so call off the dogs or maybe this is a little unprofessional but f*** OFF. i am just trying to help people on here and apparently all you guys are wanting to do is discredit someone how about looking in the mirror and discrediting your self for a change it might do your some good. and please excuse my vluger language. you can only push some one so far. so you help the people that dont know s*** about their C drive or how to update thier antivirus. maybe i am talking about you maybe not. you can either take what advise i offer for "free" or you may not. i dont care just dont attack me or i will attack back.
