a cd/dvd ..rom/burner can also make an awful noise if its going bad or you accidently put two disc's in it

It could be the hard drive going bad, but it could also just be a fan. A bad fan can make the CPU overheat and lock up the computer.
Take of the side cover to get a closer look. This usually just consists of removing 2 thumbscrews in the back, then slide the side cover back about an inch to unlock it. Once it's off, you can see where the noise is coming from.
If it's the hard drive (usually located directly beneath the CD Rom), you'll want to take it to someone fast to see if you can save the data. Usually this consists of installing a new hard drive, then copying the data from the existing hard drive to the new one. Cost will be around $100, depending on how difficult the transfer of data becomes.
If it's just a fan, it's not such a problem. You can buy a new one for around $2, and it's easy to replace yourself. You'll still want to do it soon, though, to prevent damaging the CPU.

ok this dinosaur pc is making a grinding grumbling noise lol does that mean its going to kick the bucket? i can not get this thing to defragment either it locks it up and won't budge w/o rebooting from the majic button lol... so what do i need to do..have fun
