Well, I've been using the free trial for a week, and the service has been OK. I had to use tether's customer service to do the first trial install, and they actually had a helpful person respond very quickly to answer questions.

So I just paid the $30 for the registered version.

The only downside I can see is the speed is not as fast as cable or dsl. To be expected; they are using cell towers. It seems to be as fast as cricket or clear internet service that I had tried out earlier (and they were $50 a month!) I can stream videos from some sites, with just a few buffering pauses. I think sprint might be rationing bandwidth when they have high demand, but I can't prove it.

Overall, I'm still quite happy with the service. Would definitely recommend it to others~!

If sprint doesn't have a tethering restriction, you don't need anything except a usb cable and the blackberry software that comes with your phone. If they do have a restriction, like verizon does, there are some apps that get you around this restriction. I like PDAnet. There is a limited free version, and the unlimited version is just a one time fee

Also you don't need to buy the App. It does make the whole thing a little easier

You should drop to your knees and thank Jesus you can afford such things.

Objective: mobile internet hookup. Minimum cost.

OK, I cancelled my internet and cable TV a few months ago. Have been online only using my blackberry since then. OK for email and such, but kind of slow and clunky for viewing webpages, and typing on teeny-tiny keys.

I tried out a mobile air card from Clear Internet, and it had major problems connecting, and was slow. 50 bucks a month, with a monthly throughput limit, after which they throttle your speed down terribly. Do not want. The other major "air cards" had similar limitations, it seems.

BTW, my phone service is Sprint (unlimited data).

I talked to someone at a Christmas party, who was running his business from his truck, using an Ipad, which communicates with his Iphone through the "cloud" (the next big thing, I'm told). Looking for something similar without buying Apple??? Does it exist?

After a little exploring of blackberry apps, I'm finding this one called "tether", that seems to accomplish the objective!

Now, I can use my phone like an air card, and use the laptop anywhere there is cell signal! No extra recurring charges! (Tether has a free trial, and $30 one-time purchase).

I'm now typing on my laptop and sending the bits to gowilkes through the phone.

Mission accomplished! Just thought I'd share.

Or maybe I'm just slow on the uptake...anyone else using a similar setup?
