I have seen Usb drivers spread boot viruses on non domain pcs. Also I ram accost a PXE ISO hijacker. It would boot instead of the actual on board rom. It did not due anything (yet),
Did the affected systems have the same mother boards? ( think about bios, hardware bug) or even faulty cmos battery resetting to defective default configs )

Guess you guys missed my point. I do this for a living, however, I don't mentioned the company I work for. Anyway, I have ran across this issue on a few systems (3 in the last 2 weeks) I have worked on recently. I used multiple virus scanners and root scanners and they did not detect this virus. Also disk scans showed the drives having no errors.

I have seen this problem being both bad drivers and hardware related. Try removing any un-needed devices like usb drives, printer, ect. We will try one area at a time.

Anyone computer techs running into a problem with computers just booting up and hanging before the login screen. The mouse moves - but not login screen. Also does the same in Safe mode. Even when trying to go to do a factory reset, it never gets to the menu. I booted up with Partition Manager and I found that the O/S Partition showed as unformatted, however, I could still see files (believe it or not). Anyway, I checked for boot sector virus with negative results. After I deleted the O/S partition, I was able access the recovery partition and restore the computer to factory settings. I have come across this several time recently. Usually, I have been able to resolve the problem by removing a boot sector virus or wiring a new Master boot record and using fixboot. However, this one stumped me. I am sure it was cause by a virus, but one I was not able to remove.
