When I run out storage space on my iPad, I move things to my laptop. I was unsure about owning a tablet. Now that I have one, I'm glad. So much easier to move around and travel with

Actually, if you want to get technical and go based on the information that the OP has so far provided, then the key words of the most importance seems to be "isn't so expensive".

Autty, that is the first time I have ever seen the perfect answer to these kinds of questions. Instead of mindlessly advocating for their favorite devices, they should ask the questioner the very things you mentioned, and offer options to explore...
Well done!

I like my iPad with the exception of compatibility issues with video and storage. They really try to sell you the expanded iCloud. If you go with iPad, get the biggest memory you can afford because you can not upgrade.

I'm sticking with my laptop until the dust settles and the perfect tablet appears.

It all depends on what you want to do with it. If you want a reader, get a nook. if you want games/movies with some pc attributes, get the kindle hdx or Samsung Galaxy. If you want a PC tablet and are used to Apple apps and pricing, go ahead and get the Ipad. We have a nook and nook hd. They work fine for our occasional online browsing and books. It's also pretty sturdy for our 2 kids, and if something happens we're only out $100-$150.
