I have the straightalk Samsung Galaxy s2. They have 2 models of phones gsm vs cdma. The big difference is one uses sim cards and the other one doesn't. Also one uses AT&T towers and the other uses T-Mobile. You would need to go on their website and look at the coverage map to see how it would be in WJ. I can vouch that I love their service and it's the cheapest around for unlimited everything. Yes I know someone will probably come on here and say that it's not truly unlimited, but I've never been throttled and I stream 24/7.

How is the service for both data and calls compared to verizon or skybest...I would use my phone mostly in fleetwood, WJ and J area. I am concerned about the coverage of these services...any comments ??

Yes it breaks any TOS to root your phone, but rooting can be reversed if the need to be arises. Yes anytime that you choose to use Wifi instead of data then you won't add to your monthly limit. I would use Wifi anytime that I could to save data on your plan. When downloading apps it's best to use wifi to download them that way you have a strong steady download and you are less likely to have an app not download/install successfully due to not having good coverage.

Thanks again for the info. I believe part of the written contract with straight talk prohibits jailbreaking the phone; but I don't know how they would enforce it.

Uh-oh, I just looked at my data usage...I used 1/3 of my 2gb data in the first 4 days! Been downloading aps and listening to the radio like crazy, gotta back off?

Am I right to think you can set up the phone to search for and use wifi instead of the network to conseve data use?

Anytime,

To keep it short and simple, basically rooting allows you to have full control of your phone. It *unlocks* it so to speak. It allows you to switch to any carrier you want instead of being stuck with at&t for example. It also allows you to install apps that are only made for root use for example titanium backup which is one of the best backup/restore apps I've found. The normal user probably will never benefit from rooting because they'll be satisfied with what they have, but a power user or a tinkerer will want a rooted phone so they will be able to put custom roms and clockword mod recovery on there as well. Also rooted phones allow you to put Linux operating system on the phone instead of using the Android OS.

But rooting also breaks your warranty on your phone as well, so there's disadvantages as well. But anything you do can be reversed if the need be. Also another advantage and disadvantage of rooting is that it opens up all of your files *including system files* that can be removed, edited, and etc without any restrictions, which if not careful can result in the disadvantage of rooting and brick your phone.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell. There's a lot of guides out here depending on what model phone you have and etc determines if rooting is available for you or not.

Thanks for your comments, Chris. What is the purpose of rooting a phone?

I never paid attention to my monthly data usage, my old sprint plan had truly unlimited data.
About the only thing I do thats data intensive is radio streaming.

Also as far as the data cap goes, just remove the proxy servers from your phones apn settings and they can't throttle the data usage..

So come to find out there is a way to root the S2 and also install custom roms. Head over to XDA-Developers if you're interested. As far as the tethering part goes, it's still not allowed on there network.

I have Straight talk and I can vouch that I love them as a company. I have the Galaxy SII, and been loving it since I got it. I pay for the $45/month unlimited plan and I can't complain. However, I love to root my phones, and this one is not rootable atm, nor can you tether with it, so if you're in to that kind of stuff, currently to my knowledge it's not possible. Also they say that it's unlimited, but technically it's really not. From what I've heard from forums and such, is that they will cap your data if you use I believe 2 gb/s in a month, but you may want to double check just to be on the safe side.

Anyone else have this? Good or bad?

$45 per month unlimited minutes, 2 gig data cap.

I just got a Samsung Centura, seems like it runs pretty good.

Feedback welcome . Thanks!
