Speakers quit working

Best way to test your speakers...unplug them from your computer, and plug them into the headphone jack of an mp3 player or portable cd player. If you hear music, it ain't the speakers.

When sound suddenly disappears, it's usually not a hardware problem. It's usually a setting in the wrong position...somewhere in the Windows Mixer. Or perhaps newly installed software has screwed something up.

If this problem suddenly developed, and you know when, you could do a system restore to before the problem occured. Best to uninstall any software you've installed since the restore point, then go to "accessories", "system tools", and "system restore". For more restore points, check the box that shows more, and choose one that you know was before the problem developed.

I'd bet an RC and a Moon Pie that this will "fix you right up". Don't forget to plug those speakers back into the speaker output of your soundcard. It's probably color-coded green. The plug on your speakers is more-likely-then-not also this color.

Good luck!

As protec said check your connections, if OK , unplug and reconnect the speakers from the pc, if speakers are good and powered on you should hear "static or poping sound" as you do this, if you hear noise the speakers are good. right click on the volume control, (by the time at bottom rt corner of screen

and make sure volume is not mutted, if you still have not found the problem go to control panel + sounds and audio devices, select the sounds tab, and a sound then select test (arrow to the right of sound name) if you here sound the system is working, if the arrow is grayed out there is a problem with the sound card or driver try updating the device driver Then re post you can buy a pretty good set of speakers for around $30

first check all connections to your speakers and your pc (that has to do with sound). if they are powered by an ac adapter check your power also. if all is connected correctly and you have power and they still dont work check them with another pc or laptop to rule out your sound card if they still dont work in another pc you may have bad speaker, there are also some sound options under control panel you can check or call me. I make house calls for 25 dollars and usually I can fix the problem while onsite.
