Thanks for the help. I had a computer-savvy friend come by last night and he showed me how to set up the documents and downloads to go to the larger drive...I will look into the Windows Explorer this afternoon...

Thank you again!!

My computer is set up the same way. I have wiped my computer out completely with restoration disks hoping to alter mine, but it stayed the same. When I have gotten one side filled up though, it automatically goes to the other one. I hope this helps you.

Personally, I wouldn't un-partition it. However, you could with a program like Partition Magic. You should consider moving your My Documents folder to the 80Gb partition, and your email store. You can change those by right-clicking My Documents and choosing properties, and accessing the options in your email program. If you ever get hit by a virus or experience OS problems, you can reformat and reinstall the OS without losing your data. Plus, the smaller the system partition is, the faster your PC will run. Although most PCs do not come this way, a small system partition and a large data partition is the most efficient setup. As for the downloads, we'd need to know what you are using to download files, Mozilla, IE, p2p program, etc.

I don't know if there's a way to make it do it automatically; mine just remembers the last folder that I saved to.

To change it, when you click to save something it will pop up the box asking for the filename, and shows the location that you'll be saving it. There will be a drop down menu at the top that says "Save In". Click on this folder, and change it to the E: drive.

You might want to spend a little time getting familiar with how your hard drive is set up. Go to Start > All Programs, and look for "Windows Explorer" (not Internet Explorer, but Windows Explorer). It will probably be in the first list, but it might be under Accessories.

This program will show the files on your hard drive. Feel free to look at anything, but don't delete anything unless you're absolutely sure that it's not important.

I don't know how to do that, though...i'm not a techy kind of person, and the system automatically saves to the 20gb side. how can i change it to auto-save any DLed files to the 80gb side? it's a vaio and i'm using XP on it.

thanks

I'm guessing that you're referring to a partition. This would mean that the 80G partition is on Drive E (educated guess on the letter), while the 20G partition is on Drive C.

My hard drive is set up this way on purpose, and I can't think of any advantages to not having it partitioned. Theoretically, your operating system will respond more quickly, and it should be easier to organize all of your data files on Drive E.

To my knowledge, you can't un-partition it without formatting the hard drive, but I might be wrong on that. I would strongly suggest, though, that you keep it this way, then start using the 80G partition (Drive E) to store data files (especially pictures, setup files, back-ups for Drive C, etc), and only use the 20G partition (Drive C) to run executable programs.
