If mine wobbles and the needle bounces I put a penny on it. (This also keeps dust from throwing it!) I may even move the selector switch down from 78rpm to 45 or 33.

Good lord - I hope you aren't the actual 'friend' on here trolling for business. That's one of the worst descriptions I think I've ever heard of how a drive works.

I know when mine starts wobbling at 72rpm, I back it down to 45 and its fine for a bit longer...

well, when there is two types of hard drive crashes, the most common being the command circuit board on it breaks, which is an easy fix. u pop the hard drive out and open it up and the command circuit board is right on the back, its easy to replace. but when the needle that reads the actual memory drive is crashed thats another story. ud have to expose the air to the outside and the disc is ultra sensative. no joke, if a spec of dust big enough lands on it and u run the drive the needle will scratch the memory disc and bye bye data. oh and actually i do know an automechanic friend, His name is Gerry works at the myers at millers creek, he has a part time a Bk near the wcc u could ask for him. He is very cheap.

well, my friend is a studying computer engineering at a four year college. so he knows what he's doing. i'm not saying that pc source doesnt know what they are doing, simply that in these harsh times the price can seem very inflated to a lot of us. I myself know very well about computers, but a crashed hardrive needs a clean room, which pc source would replicate at a very expensive price. So I wouldn't trust anyone either, but he is a student that knows what he is doing, and getting experience hands on at a very cheap price is good.

It's so easy for people to badmouth local computer companies. It sometimes takes hours to check out a system (running virus/malware scans, hard drive checks, registry repair and etc) and remember companies have overhead. I have worked on computers that "friends" have tried to fix and they usually turn out to be horror stories. I am not connected to PC Source, but respect their service as well as most of the local computer business in our community.
