First off move all of your valuable data to your "D" drive so you will have it for later use. for example. your mydocuments folder. now if you have your xp install disks put it in and restart your pc. there should be a prompt that says press any key to boot from cd. and press a key and go through the process of reinstalling. the installer will search for preinstalled versions of xp press esc to continue a fresh install. now to the format screen you can either delete the c drive and create a new partition or now you can press R and the installer will install a new version of xp into your Windows folder and a new registry. make sure that you have your product key handy for later use. If your pc came with a drivers disk make sure to have it handy or you will possibly have to go to someone elses pc just to download any drivers that windows dosnt recognize. good luck.
ps. if it dosnt give you the option to boot to cd reboot the pc and click either Delete, esc, F1, or F2 to enter your bios and scroll to boot options and change the priority from HDD to CD rom. dont forget to change it back also after it installs and reboots it might ask to boot from cd again "dont" just let it boot and continue the installation. and change your time zone to eastern time.

My computer is basically screwed up. I have sent things to my d drive. It will not work. How do I reformat the hard drive back to the original way it came to me,without loosing my windows xp. When I got it new through sony, all I had to do was download aol or charter and go. Or what ever I need, I have uninstalled so many things and it hasn't released any memory space at all.
