Recording TV show to DVD player

Your remote could also just have a "universal" functionality to it. The record button could be for controlling another device. Most DVD recorders also have a Record button on the player itself. There is also usually some type of labelling on the player's front or back that should indicate what type of media it will play or record to.

The jacks on the cable box are "outputs". The box on your DVD RECORDER (not player) are INPUTS for connecting external devices...like the cable box. If the cable box's OUTPUT is connected to an INPUT (at least three cables for composite....video, and left and right channel stereo audio), then you can record to your DVD recorder.

However, not all DVD recorders will use all types of blank discs. Those more than a few years old often use only one type of disc...DVD+ R or DVD-R (or DVD+RW or DVD-RW). Most of the single-format recorders used either DVD+R or DVD+RW...especially recorders by Philips...so one of those discs is probably a safe bet.

Compared to a VCR, recording DVDs is a little "tweaky", so you really should find the owner's manual for specifics. With certain media (+R, for instance), you'll need to FINALIZE a disc before it will play on any DVD unit other than the one it was made on. Your manual will tell you how to do this (it varies from model to model).

If you have lost the manual, I'd just about bet you lunch that a quick search of your manufacturer's website (or a Google search) will turn up a copy in .pdf format.

Good luck.

I have a DVD player that has a record button on the remote so I am assuming it has some kind of record function. I don't have the manual. I have the DVD player hooked into the cable box, but in order to play a DVD you have to hit the input button on the television to watch it on Video 2. I think the tv is on input Video 1. I don't want to waste a DVD testing it out, but can I record a program that is playing from the cable box onto a DVD even if they are on different inputs? Is a DVD unusable after you try to record on it? I have never tried this so I have no idea. Can you record a little and then record more later or is done once you record one thing? I know this is probably stuff most people know, but I am challenged when it comes to things like this.

PS I dojust notice that there are cable outputs on the front of the charter cable box and cable outputs on the front of the DVD player. Could I just temporarily run cords to record and not watch the show at the same time? Maybe do it while asleep? I was just wondering if there aren't any other options to record different inputs.
