Listen...check the price of a new PS2 before trying to scotch this one back together.
Any electronic device has a time-limited lifespan, and my best advice to you would be to spend your money on a new, reliable unit, rather than on a repair that may or may not last a month or two. The PS2's today are on smaller, cooler chipsets and have newer drives, making them even more reliable than the earlier models. Because they have been surpassed in technology by the PS3, they can be had much cheaper, as well.
Buy your son a new one, and donate the old one to some electronics repair shop that wants to tinker with it. Let someone else be the fortunate recipient of their experiment.

There is a man at the Mountian View end of Mountian View Road that could proably fix your problems. He works out of his home, and is very good at things like that, right before you get to Mountian View School their is a sign on the right ( white sign with black letters) I think that it is called Mutsy's Electronics, he acts sort of strange but don't let that fool you he is actually pretty smart. Give him a try before you buy a new one, it might just be something simple, and might save you some money.

Its a drive issue - its not even spinning up, so you probably have a drive failure. Is there any code that appears on the screen?
Does it make a noise like its attempting to spin up the disc, or just spit it immediately back out?
Unfortunately the PS2 has reached the age where the technology is dated as such that it will likely be cheaper to replace than repair it. Not much you can do if the drive is dead. You could try contacting Sony, but they'll tell you the same thing I did, I'm afraid.
Good luck!

My son has a PS2. When he puts in a game it comes right back out. Does anyone know what is causing this? If not, do you know where I could get it fixed (cheap)?
