etc are not the ones actually infecting anything - they are just being used as pawns to get your PC to connect to a malicious server somewhere else

Well, yeaaahhh

unfortuately, it was quoting avast, a company that I do not support or trust - so take it with a grain of salt.
Also, gowilkes, google, yahoo, etc are not the ones actually infecting anything - they are just being used as pawns to get your PC to connect to a malicious server somewhere else. The interactive banner ads you see everywhere actually have compile code that they run to do what they do. Once a clean ad is approved by google, etc, it's easy enough to replace it there without further review.

There is no reason to avoid THIS website because of this, ANY website that displays ads offered by a 3rd party that allows anything other than non-interactive .jpg, .gif or .png banners can fall to the scheme.

Nice link, Ant I bookmarked it .. lots of good stuff to read there.

LOL, Jason !! :)... Back in the day, Lavasoft built a wonderful and highly effective product ... unfortunately, Adaware is a has-been, primarily resting on it's laurels since the time when it once was good ... has nothing but complaints on it anymore ... would you run it? .. I considered it until I read the mass of bad reviews ... lmao.

McAfee and Norton are right there with them, I need to add, in fairness. Fins reminded me earlier today of a German maker ... Spybot Search and Destroy ... I even got it and ran it. Pretty good although it found only one tiny thing in IE which I wouldn't even use anymore anyway but for the better download manager.

Unfortunately, my sense of it is that the Tech Talk section has very little user awareness and therefore very little effectiveness. No Stickies. No links .. that's too bad. I hardly even remember to go there, myself, and I'm interested in that kind of stuff.

If you want to air a topic to the community, the CV is still the best forum... ads or no .

There's no such thing as "Google Malware". Follow the links on the search result that you provided, and you'll see that every one of them (at least, those in the top 10 were the only ones I followed) are in reference to the user having a virus that's DNS spoofing.

I've posted a thousand times on how to correct that; in fact, I made a whole section for it (called "Tech Talk"). The easiest method is to simply download Ad Aware from http://www.download.com.

Well. alrighty then, Jas ... it's a circular discussion at best.

Legitimate browser add-ons may be used to execute other illegitimate code, also ... the user component doesn't have to be a virus necessarily ... but that shouldn't excuse the Adsense malware content, IMHO. It's worthy of blocking ... and it brings little or no added value to the user, does it?

How about helping to educate the user base on here how to PREVENT the Google malware from causing problems ... that would be a community service, wouldn't it?

BBT, you'll notice that almost all of the links that you provided refer to a virus or spyware already on the users computer, that diverts the Google ad to a virus- or spyware-oriented site. The virus or spyware doesn't come from the Google ad directly; it comes from the infected persons computer.

Don't feel bad Quack, I just put 2 and 2 together also. I was just getting ready to start keeping a watch on it when I saw your post. I just we're just slow or our brain is so full of knowledge that it doesn't have room to compute any more information.

Bigboystoys, I agree it was a stupid posting. But to be honest I knew the ad on the left was always changing but I just did not put 2 and 2 together and see that they sorta matched. Stupid me.

LMAO, Quack .. you're the one who started this whole dam thread ... lmao

I wouldn't be so sure about that Jason, if I were you; but I can certainly understand your reasoning behind your position on the Google stuff. Who in the heck would want to be responsible for malware infections caused by it ?

Frankly, many other trusted sources just don't agree.

With all due respect, my own experience and research confirms what myself and Ant Flo have written here.

The link is a Google search that shows and links many older and more recent malware infections to Adsense. I block it for that reason. Once bitten, twice shy, sir.

All this time I did not connect the posting with the ad. It thought it was odd but still no connection. I think I will leave things just the way they are.

BBT and Flo, that's not true at all. As I explained to BBT by email, the only way that Adsense can direct you to a virus is if you already have a virus that redirects you to a site other than the one delivered by the ad.

Google Adsense in the past has been known to serve up malware and viruses - all you have to do is view a page on gowilkes, Adsense picks the wrong or 'infected' ad out of its queue randomly, and down you go. Supposedly, they have removed all of the malicious ads currently, but they were very effective the first, second and third rounds, so they'll likely be back.

I removed several posts that were off topic.

Quack, some of the Google Adsense ads on the left DO contain malicious code which executes if you click on them or try to move them out of the way.

Note from GoWilkes: a portion of this post was removed that was off topic.
