Happy Thanksgiving, Ginnyst.
My Dell desktop, purchased in Nov of 07 with Vista 32 bit, has had driver issues until just a month or so ago, when FINALLY ATI released video drivers for the HD2400 pro that work. Prior to that, the video drivers crashed multiple times a day, EVERY day...for almost two years. Maddening!
Glad everything's working. Happy Thanksgiving.

Sounds like your drivers crashed. Is this a Dell? If this happens again you can go to the website of the company that makes the laptop and re-download the sound drivers.

Yes I did reboot the computer and that didn't work and the speakers are plugged up right and there is power to them. I will try what you suggested RadioGiant when I get home from work today and will let you know if that worked. Thanks everyone for your help I will be back on after work. Have a great day :)

did you plug the speakers into the right plug ? do the speakers have to be powered by plugging into a electrical outlet on the wall ?

I hate to state the first step to fixing this - but did you reboot?

What version of Windows are you using? Probably the playback properties are still set to the USB device that's no longer there, or something's gotten screwed up in the mixer (volume control).
If you're using XP or later, he quickest way to set things right, if you haven't installed any software or made major changes since the problem occured, is to simply do a system restore to a point soon before the problem appeared.
We could go down step by step tryinjg to disagnose and fix what it might be, but the above method should fix WHATEVER it is!

I had earphones hooked up that had a microphone with it so I could use the web cam and now I unplugged the headphones because my husband and I wanted to listen to something together and when I did that the sound wouldn't come out of the speakers. I went to control panel and clicked on sounds, and some how lost the hardware to the speakers or that is what I think it said. How do I get sound back on? Is there a place on line you can download something to restore the sound because I don't know if I can find the cds right now. Any help with this will be much appriciated. Thank you
